They decided that there was no time like the present to make someone’s day with a little act of love. So they came up with an idea. Do anonymous acts of kindness for people, whether they are strangers or friends, and leave behind a ‘smile card’ to keep the kindness going. In truth it started out as a conversation but when they tested this idea, this concept of changing the world with love they saw that there was potential for it to really take off. These kindness heroes set up the website “www.helpothers.org” as an anonymous kindness website where people could share their experienc-es and stories of the kindness they had given or received.

SMILE CARDS

The smile cards were the next step in the chain of anonymous kindness. The founders of HELPOTHERS had very little resources to begin with and it was with the help of people around them that the cards were designed. The first batch of smile cards were printed free of charge when the news of what they were doing reached the printer. So in September 2003 the HELPOTHERS founders had their first box with only 100 cards and no idea that soon enough the cards would be popping up all over the world.Such a new and innovative idea was quick to catch on. The HELPOTHERS founders had no business plan and no want or need to make any money from their acts of kindness. To them it was just a ‘labour of love’ and they plan for it to always be so. They ship their smile cards all around the world for free and send out weekly ‘kindness newsletters’ to share what has been happening. They have revamped their website three times this year alone and are always working to keep up with the demand but as for now their future is uncertain. They only want to continue with their ‘small acts with great love’ attitude.Interested? I can only say so much to convince you that what is going on here needs to be continued. To make up your own mind you really have to check it out yourself. So head on to www.helpothers.org and see what all the fuss is about. Make a move, get some smile cards and change the world you live in!
