Presented by Tura New Music & Australian Chamber Orchestra
Darwin, WA and Sydney – 5th – 23rd July 2012
The Reef, an extraordinary multi media performance that will demonstate incredibly strong and powerful Australian surfing footage, music and landscape, will premier in Darwin before taking off down the WA coast to Perth, concluding at the Sydney Opera House where tickets are on the verge of a sell out!
In May, Australian Chamber Orchestra Artistic Director Richard Tognetti (pictured) took musicians and surfers to the rugged surf coast and tough desert landscape of northern Western Australia to create a new performance piece at the intersection of music and nature. Travelling with Tognetti and ACO musicians to world heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef was photographer Jon Frank, director Mick Sowry, composer Iain Grandage, didgeridoo player Mark Atkins, singer Steve Pigram and professional surfers Derek Hynd, Ryan Burch and Dane Beevor. Together they have created a new work using music and film to further delve into the links between surfing, the ocean, landscape and music.
This is set to be a concert program of virtuosity celebrating the sheer wonder of the Australian landscape and soul. Amulti media performance .The Reef tour will have its world premiere in Darwin on July 5, then travel to regional WA, the Perth Concert Hall and concludes at the Sydney Opera House on July 23.
The Reef evolved as the best way to allow as many people in regional and remote Northern Territory and Western Australia to experience the power of Australia’s leading violinist Richard Tognetti, the ACO and ACO2. combined with original film and imagery. A soaring world class orchestra, earthy didgeridoo and vocals with evocative land and sea filmed projection creating a spellbinding event; this is one performance experience not to miss.

The Reef is a co-production by the ACO and Tura New Music.
