Interview with Kay Panabaker
I got to interview Kay Panabaker, it went something like this…
How is this Fame different from the 1980′s original?
There is a new story, new music, new characters and a new idea. Also Fame itself has changed with American Idol and Youtube, Fame has become something that can happen instantly and can be very short.
Can you tell me a little about the character you play?
I play Jenny she is an actress that sings, Jenny was the most talented kid in her school, then she moves to a performance school and realises that there are kids that are better than her. She loses her confidence and has to find the love that was once there for acting.
Is this movie like High School Musical?
This movie is about hard work and passion; it is about a real look at what it is to be a performer. There are ups and downs. It also states that if you work hard and have a passion you are not always going to get what you want.
How did you get your start in the industry?
My Mum signed me up for some extra curricula activities at a community theater; I guess I fell in to it. Now that I’m an actress I don’t want to do any thing else; I’m happy doing this for as long as I can. I do have some other career paths that I could go down but I’m happy.
Young people today lead very busy lives, you seem to have achieved a great deal artistically and academically – do you have any advice for the young people who create our GRIND website in how to find balance between school and our other creative endeavours?
Have fun with every thing that you do, stay in school. I use my school days as perspective on my characters that I am playing. Work hard and it will pay off with success.
What was it like to work with Kelsey Grammar?
Kelsey was great, very nice to work with, sweet, funny and gave us younger ones some advice. There is nothing bad that I can say about any of the people I work with.
