TwilightIf you like vampires and fiction stories this is one book that you have to read!

Isabella Swan moves to a small, dull town called Forks. As her first day begins she notices that the Cullens, particularly Edward Cullen, hate her. As time goes by Bella becomes more and more fascinated with his porcelain skin and golden eyes. She notices how they all walk gracefully and look the same, but are her theories right? Are Edward and his family all vampires? Is she putting herself and others at risk? The book begins with love, and action leading to a suspenseful ending. You must read the book to know all the answers. It will keep you reading non-stop just like me.

If you like this book read the next two in the trilogy: “Newmoon” and “Eclipse”.

Does anyone else think Stephenie Meyer can’t write to save her life and that her main character is the most boring person on the planet?
Personally, i couldn’t even get through this book and won’t even bother with the others. The characters and plot were unbelievable and poorly thought out, the relationship between Bella and Edward in ‘Twilight’ and the sequels is diturbing at best – abusive and co-dependent at worst, and if i believed Stephenie Meyer had put any kind of thought into her ’stories’ as ‘novels’ i would think the whole series is an extended metaphor for abstinence.
I understand why 13 year old girls have pulled down Harry and Adorned their walls with Edward posters and memorabilia; everyone knows they aren’t magic, but they still hope they can find the perfect guy! Here’s my suggestion to you, fangirls; love yourselves. Then you won’t be drooling over every guy that wants to tear out your jugular because you ’smell good’. Read something with substance for pete’s sake, and if you are still longing for ‘that perfect guy’, pick up Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and fall for Mr Darcy like the rest of us girls with brains.

p.s. If you are after vampires, go to the library and pick up some Anne Rice. She has an extensive number of ‘Vampire Chronicles’ starting with the famous ‘Interview With A Vampire’, featuring the dreamy french vampire Lestat. Over written to the extreme and delightfully full of themselves, the ‘Vampire Chronicles’ will give you a MUCH better read then Stephenie Meyer could ever hope to comprehend.
What’s more, these vampires don’t ’sparkle like diamonds’ in the sunlight!

Well….I’ve seen the movie but I haven’t read the books. One thing that is glaringly obvious is that Stephenie Meyer’s team have definitely got the marketing down pat. Could say the same for the Harry Potter books no?

    awesome! i have a hyperlink!

Ahhh, the movie! i was subjected to that particularly paralyzing piece of film on a plane. It was hilariously awful. It was just a myriad of completely unrelated events put into one movie… with vampires!!! The joke about the family guy dugongs picking idea balls is prudent in this case i should think, because that’s what this movie was, a tank full of dugong balls.

I haven’t read any of the books but I’ve seen the movie and frankly I thought it was completely crap. Though I read/heard somewhere that the book focuses on the emotion and connection between the two protagonists with very little dialogue hence making the movie difficult to portray as dialogue is a key part into making a successful movie. But the movie still became successful.

I chose the wrong decision to watch the screening of Twilight during the first week of release as the theatre was filled with school girls who had obviously read the book and were all VERY excited to see Edward. I had to refrain myself from projectile throwing popcorn at each individual who squealed in delight to see a certain someone pop on screen.

I’ve had my fair share of people to convince me to read the book, but I will stand my ground and not pick up any Stephanie Meyer book.

*hugs Neville* There are others like me! Who knew, let’s print T-shirts!

The only reason i even tried to get through the ‘novel’ (I use the word loosely) is so I had more fuel to critique it with. I was sick of my friends saying I couldn’t insult their bible without reading it. And so, I borrowed a copy. I vowed to go in with an open mind, no preconceptions. Just me and a book. I began and was abruptly thrown off a cliff of Mary-sues and “Bella’s heart stopped for a beat as she saw Edward staring back at her”’s. I found myself wishing this girl’s heart would just give up for good, as it had obviously skipped a beat everyday for the last 50 pages. I trudged on. The air was thick with what i can only assume were the misguided attempts of the author at creating tension, failed and repackaged as stoic expressions and misty clouds of overwritten teenage hormones. I was drenched in the dripping deluge of unbelievability and so, about half way through, i could take no more punishment and admitted defeat. I couldn’t even read the book for the truly noble cause of picking up more reasons to tease twilighters. I was ashamed. But then, revelation! The fact that I could not even stomach this monstrosity of a novel was fuel enough! I didn’t need more material to tease my friends with because their stupid book was so bad I couldn’t even read it!

And that’s why I’m glad I tried to read twilight and failed miserably.

Meyer’s books are a poor excuse for fiction they are really nothing amazing or literary masterpieces. I think the OBSESSION over Twilight is frankly concerning.

I’m sure it’s lovely for what it is – but I abhor people saying what an amazing piece of writing amazement it is. It really isn’t, and the movie is awful.

Also, sparkling in the sunlight. Really? Really??

There are SO many things wrong with twilight on SO MANY LEVELS !

Firstly.. this book is completely sexist. I’m not usual one to.. Well, care frankly, but this book is appauling! It presents a completely moronic female protagnoist who can’t seem to do one thing without a boy coming to her rescue. There are so many examples in the series that it’s hard to ignore; Bella gives up her dreams and plans for college to get married to Edward, nearly every single female character in the book is protrayed as hopelessly negative.

And it gets worse. As soon as Edward leaves, what happens? She morphs into a complete zombie, totally lost without him, even suicidal. What sort of image is this giving to the books (general) female teenage audience? That without your boyfriend you should become an emotionless zombie mopping around lost ? That reckless self-endangerment is okay? Great example you’re setting here Meyer…

this book just makes me SO ANGRY !
    Seriously

    Like, cmon.
    Edward.
Don’t get me STARTED ON EDWARD.
He’s soo hot. He’s so dreamy. He’s amazing.
And you know how we know ? Because Meyer doesn’t go two whole pages without mentioning it !
Not to mention, if he wasn’t super hot, his extremely stalker-like activities would never be approved of.. I mean imagine if you woke up and some guy was just chillin in your bedroom. Fair enough if he’s super hot, it’s like ‘..hey.’
but if he was like a NORMAL, REAL VAMPIRE, I think the reaction may be more like ‘”!@#)38!*( !!!!!

I’m not even going to get started on this properly.

If you really want a good laugh thanks to Twilight, read this blog; http://stoney321.livejournal.com/317176.html

Seriously could NOT stop cacking myself the whole time.

    And one last note.
Meyer.. Get a dictionary or something, I SWEAR to God that I’ve read more descriptive prose from 5th Graders then this dribble.

Haha CJ, I will usually jump at every chance to design and produce clothing, but I will never sink to that level of Supre’s choice in marketing “I kissed a vampire” shirts.

Hi GRINDers – it’s great that debate is happening. However could we please keep the comments concerned with the quality or lack thereof of the book/movie/music and not in regards to those people who may or may not enjoy the book/movie/music. Cheers

The reason that they sparkle is because the writer was creating her version of a vampires ability to attract their pray, so the sparkling is just another way to feed on humans. They also go through a massive change when they die to become beautiful after the three days of change that they go through, they then become beautiful, sparkly and they have a very attractive smell. its just how she created the predators that she wanted… as long as other people like it I don’t see why the movie, the books or Meyer should be put down for being unique in ideas. I think being different is a good thing and should be rewarded not put down, so good for you Meyer, for being different, its obviously a good book or no one would read it or write good reviews about it.
