Ellington
Ever felt like turning on some music as you chill back reading an edition of GRIND and sipping coffee as you lick the tip of your thumb to turn a page? Well if that’s a yes the only decision to be made here is what choice of plastic to insert into the cd player.
Well you’re in luck; I bring to you Ellington. Hailing from Queensland the band was formed by two amazing guys Michael Beatson and Jake Bosci. Ellington produce music that anyone and everyone can relate to in some way or another.
Ellington’s debut record “The Joy We Keep In” was released in April 2007, and was produced by Joshua Burton, who has also produced Ashmore.
“The Joy We Keep In” is an 8-track EP filled with soft vocal melodies and nice clean acoustic strumming. If you’re a fan of acoustic music, then you can clearly hear the influences of other acoustic bands such as The Early November and Dashboard Confessional.
Listening to Ellington it arouses the emotions. ‘We make music in the hope to make you feel better when things aren’t so good, the soundtrack to your life if you will.’
The whole EP consists of guitars and light drumming in the background with a few little instruments here and there. “Sunsets & Silhouettes” is the only rock-esque song in the EP, and opens the record.
Ellington will be releasing their new EP, “More Like A Movie, Less Like Real Life” later this year. The EP was recorded in Atlanta, I’m definitely excited about their next EP as it has guest singers from Relient K, Lydia and Say Anything, who have mass fan bases around the world. Having big names like that on a EP sure does mean they’re doing something right!
The band will be touring later this year to launch their new record too. Hopefully I can make it to one of their shows as I am wetting my pants to see them play live!
Maybe I’ll try persuade them to come up to Darwin to play an acoustic show with some of local bands here ehh? Now that would be massively awesome!
Unfortunately you aren’t able to purchase their record here in Darwin (which I’m planning on fixing! I’ll be giving them word on our lack of Ellington-ness), Ellington are two down-to-earth guys enjoying what they do, and making everyone enjoy it aswell!
Now go back to that sipping, and lift your legs up and place them in a comfortable position, choose your choice of perfect reading, slip in Ellington into the cd player and embrace the hot warm weather that Darwin brings to us!
Ellington are available in Brisbane Rocking Horse, Kill The Music, in Melbourne Fist2Face, Missing Link, Adelaide We Are Godzilla and MySpace.
